This exciting inaugural 1-mile kids run and 5 K run are designed to draw awareness to the issue of human trafficking in Ohio which is ranked #4 in the United States. Human trafficking is the world’s fastest growing illegal activity. According to the International Labor Organization and the Polaris Project human trafficking is a $150 billion a year industry in which 20-30 million are trafficked sexually or through forced labor worldwide. Money raised for this event helps our running initiatives in inner city Columbus (Parson’s Ave, Sullivant Ave. and W. Broad St.) whereby running and walking groups travel up and down the streets handing out purses filled with feminine hygiene items to women while donning lights on their heads calling themselves The Light Brigade. Funds raised also go to secure a property in Bangalore, India to rescue and rehabilitate young women who are rescued out of being trafficked. India is the world’s #1 country in incidents of human trafficking far exceeding all others with 1-2 million young people trafficked annually
